GUIDANCE NOTES FOR THE USE OF BROAD CHALKE VILLAGE HALL

DEAR HALL USERS - PLEASE NOTE – A LOT OF RUBBISH HAS BEEN LEFT AT THE HALL AFTER RECENT EVENTS. PLEASE TAKE ALL RUBBISH GENERATED BY YOUR EVENT AWAY WITH YOU! MANY THANKS.

PARKING - VERY IMPORTANT

Please ask your guests to park in the Church car park.  Roadside parking can be dangerous along the stretch of road outside the hall and is NOT recommended. Parking is NOT available in the Old School. This is now a private dwelling.

TELEPHONE

Please note – there is a payphone in the hall in the lobby near Ladies Toilets. Mobiles generally don’t get a signal in Broad Chalke.

KEYS AND DOORS

Access to hall is by via the green door facing the road. The key to this door is held at ‘Penlan’. This is the cottage next door but one to the hall. You will find the key on the porch window sill. PLEASE REMEMBER TO PUT IT BACK WHEN YOU HAVE LEFT AND LOCKED THE HALL! AND PLEASE BE AS QUIET AS POSSIBLE, ESPECIALLY IN THE EVENING.

You do not need to tell the occupiers of Penlan that you are using the hall. The key is merely kept there.

Please don’t leave the keys in the lock when you are inside the hall.

You may wish to open the double doors by the Gents. These are opened by drawing the bolts top and bottom. PLEASE MAKE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN THAT THESE ARE BOLTED AGAIN BEFORE YOU LEAVE. The disabled toilet is located just outside these doors, the key to which is on the ring you have collected. Please check this before leaving and make sure it is locked.

Please keep all exits clear to comply with fire regulations.

ELECTRICS

All lights and power sockets are controlled by the left hand switch located just inside the front door on the right hand wall. If this is not working, please check fuse box inside the cupboard in the main hall to the left of the big stage. PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO SWITCH THE MASTER SWITCH OFF WHEN YOU LEAVE!

HEATING - MAIN HALL - The heating comes on automatically all day and every day (07:30-22:00) and there is no need to alter the boiler or heater settings. Should additional heat be required the wall mounted electric heaters may be switched on.  This is done by placing a ‘one pound’ coin in the slot machine (blue box situated in the left cupboard at the far left of the Hall by the stage).  Once the coin has been accepted by the machine the heater switches (placed to the right of the slot machine) can be switched on (one for each heater) – The fewer heaters switched on, the longer the money lasts.

HEATING - GURSTON ROOM - There is a switch on the wall by the kitchen sink (to the left of the store room door).  It will have 5 red lights illuminated on it.  The instructions for use are on the switch. A maximum of 2 hrs free heat may be programmed.  For additional time just re-set the switch.

HEATING – STAGE - There is a switch on the wall by the left hand wing of the stage.  It will have 5 red lights illuminated on it.  The instructions for use are on the switch.

A maximum of 2 hrs free heat may be programmed.  For additional time just re-set the switch.

HOUSEKEEPING

Hall users are requested to leave the hall as they would wish to find it.

Please make sure you return all items or furniture, especially the piano, to their original place.

TAKE AWAY all rubbish, and please make absolutely certain you take away ALL leftover food/drink. PLEASE DO NOT leave sacks of rubbish either in the hall NOR outside as it attracts rats.

Wash, dry and put away all utensils etc that you use.

Make sure ALL surfaces are clean and dry not only in the kitchen, but also table tops and chairs.

Make sure dishwasher, if used, has the bung taken out and that all instructions above it have been complied with. Don’t forget that the dishwasher must be turned on 30 minutes before it is required. Cycles are very quick – about 2 minutes.

Sweep all floors and mop up spillages. Kitchen floor should be swabbed but DO NOT wash wooden main hall floor.

IT IS BETTER TO BRING DRYING UP CLOTHS WITH YOU, OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE AWAY THE HALL CLOTHS TO WASH AND THEN RETURN THEM.

IF YOU HAVE BEEN USING FRIDGE – MAKE CERTAIN IT IS EMPTIED AND THAT THE PLUG IS TAKEN OUT OF THE SOCKET. LEAVE DOOR OPEN A CRACK.
